Product Questions

GM is a natural concentrated whole food and its nutrients are in their natural, biologically active states. Many supplements, including multi-vitamin and mineral pills contain synthetic ingredients. Most grass powders are processed by dehydrating the whole leaf without separating the pulp from the juice. The result is a product that contains a high concentration of insoluble fiber compared to soluble juice nutrients. The nutrients remaining in the powder may be trapped inside the insoluble fiber which the human body cannot breakdown because we lack the enzyme cellulase. Therefore, the amount of nutrition that is absorbed and utilized by consuming whole leaf fiber powders is less compared to the nutrients that we absorb from consuming GM.

GM is 100% organic – certified by QAI.

GM is 100% GMO-Free. Since there are no long-term studies on the effects of genetically modified produce, humans are being subjected to potentially short- and long-term harmful effects of consuming these foods.

Place 1/2 tsp. of Green Magma® powder in a glass of cold water and stir. After several minutes, Green Magma will remain dissolved and the solution will appear uniformly green from top to bottom while a low fiber containing product will appear light at the top and dark on the bottom from the settling of fiber.

While both barley grass and wheat grass are nutritious, Dr. Hagiwara has demonstrated that barley grass contains all the essential nutrients required by our bodies. Research has found that barley grass is a more potent source than wheat grass of the “grass juice factor” necessary for growth and development in mammals.

GM contains a greater diversity of nutrients than multi-vitamins. It is this combination of many nutrients working together synergistically that allows our products to give you the ultimate in nutrition just like nature intended.

They are identical in nutrition; however we may assimilate GM in the powder form a little more rapidly but not necessarily more completely.

The maltodextrin acts as a protective barrier around the nutrients in GM and prevents their oxidation, thereby protecting them until GM is dissolved in a liquid. Without maltodextrin, the nutrients would be subjected to oxidation thereby destroying its nutritive value.

Green Magma is made from barley grass juice while Magma Plus contains barley grass juice plus extracts of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and other nutritious, natural ingredients. Both products provide active enzymes while Magma Plus adds more ingredients for those looking for a supplement with greater variety and additional nutrients.

Benefits and Nutritional Content

GM gives you a superb natural nutrition in a glass. It provides you with an abundance of active enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, chlorophyll and other important phytonutrients in a natural medium. Good nutrition means delivering the necessary nutrients to your cells, neutralizing toxins and protection from free radicals. GM and each of our other products promote and enhance each of these components of good nutrition.

Yes, GM contains many enzymes including digestive enzymes such as amylase. Our bodies use enzymes for everything ranging from digestion to regulating hormone production and are the catalysts for all metabolic activity in the body. Without them, life would not be possible. Even though our bodies contain thousands of different types of enzymes, most foods we eat are processed and cooked, which renders them devoid of all enzymes. We can obtain active enzymes from fresh, raw food. GM is a source of hundreds of active enzymes.

First, we use low temperature-controlled processing techniques so that the enzymes are not destroyed by heat. Second, we add maltodextrin; a complex carbohydrate that coats and protects the enzymes preventing them from reacting with one another or becoming oxidized.

Hot Water Test: Sprinkle ½ tsp of GM or a competitor’s product into a glass of very hot water and briefly stir. GM will clump up because the active enzymes are being denatured by heat for the first time, whereas product that contains none to very little enzymes will disperse and not clump up. This is because the enzymes have already been exposed to heat and will not change the shape when heated again.

Yes, GM contains carotenoids (alpha-carotene and beta-carotene), flavonoids (saponarin and lutonarin), vitamin C, vitamin E, chlorophyll, antioxidant enzymes (SOD and catalase), and selenium. Both laboratory and clinical studies at major universities have shown that GM inhibits the oxidation of skin lipids and lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL) and reduces the oxidation of fats and free radical activity in the blood.

Antioxidants are certain phytonutrients that neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules that are extremely reactive and cause damage to our cellular membranes, DNA, and blood vessels causing them to function improperly. Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals before they can do any damage and thus help to maintain normal functioning of the cell.

Yes, GM contains chlorophyll and other substances that promote the release of toxins from the tissues so they may be expelled by the body. This is a natural process that must occur on a daily basis so that the body does not accumulate toxins.

The chlorophyll content of GM is a natural detoxifier and helps eliminate toxins from the intestines and other tissues. Because it is a natural detoxifier, it also aids in reducing bad breath. Chlorophyll also acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. There is also scientific evidence that chlorophyll may increase oxygenation of our tissues by increasing the formation of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.

The ‘green’ is from chlorophyll. Barley grass has one of the highest, natural, rich chlorophyll contents of all green vegetables. In fact, Barley Grass has 66 times more chlorophyll than spinach.

Yes, relative to the pH of the stomach, our products are alkaline, ranging from pH 6.8-7.4

Yes, GM has only 20 calories per serving (3000mg) along with an abundance of nutrients. If you are in a weight loss program, your body will benefit by taking GM. It provides vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, and proteins, no fat and practically no calories.

GM is a nutrient-rich perfect supplement for a weight loss program. It may be used as a substitute for one meal during the day. However, GM is a dietary supplement and not meant for use as a meal substitute on a permanent basis.

Special Considerations

No. The powdered juice is taken from the barley grass and not the barley grain. Unlike the grain, the grass does not contain gluten.

Diabetics and other people with blood sugar disorders can safely use GM. Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate, not a simple sugar. It releases energy slowly and will not raise sugar levels.

GM will help rebuild healthy intestinal flora and therefore may have a positive effect on regularity and gas. GM has traditionally been used to promote regularity and does not cause constipation.

Yes. We suggest giving children under 10 years ½ teaspoon in their favorite juice. For children 10 years or older, a regular serving size is fine.

No, GM is made from organic barley grass juice, which contains no caffeine. Since GM contains nutrients necessary for producing the body’s energy molecule, ATP, after taking it for a week or more you will notice an increase in energy levels.

Two teaspoons of GM contain small amounts of natural plant sugars and only four grams of carbohydrates. GM is safe for anyone who is concerned about blood sugar levels.

Taking Green Magma®

GM is best taken on an empty stomach, either 20 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after; that way the food does not interfere with the digestion and absorption of GM’s nutrients. You should mix GM with either cold or room temperature liquids, as hot liquids will break down and destroy the live enzymes.

Green Magma is not a drug but rather a whole food extract made from freshly squeeze barley grass. It is unlikely that you would ever overdose on Green Magma anymore than you would overdose on green salads.

Although the nutrients and enzymes in GM will usually stay intact and active longer in water or a non-acidic juice, as long as you drink it within 15 minutes of mixing, you may use any fruit or vegetable juice.

Yes. Many people mix Green Foods’ products together in one drink. Mixing our products together is a convenient way to ensure you receive the needed RDI of many essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

Yes, you may take multi-vitamins along with GM. GM is a natural whole food product, which is derived from fresh barley grass and will not interfere with your multi-vitamins. In fact, many nutrients are known to work together synergistically; nutrients utilized in conjunction with one another may have a more beneficial effect than if taken individually.

It is fine to take Green Foods products without meals. However, to absorb the maximum amount of nutrients in GM, it is best to take them on an empty stomach since food will prevent a portion of their nutrients from being absorbed.

GM is safe to take with other supplements since it is a whole food extract and compatible with any supplements you are taking.

Yes, GM provides a rich balance of essential nutrients. One serving of GM is equivalent to a salad of dark green vegetables in regards to nutrition. It is a safe, natural, and nutritious supplement for prenatal care.

No, GM is mildly alkaline and helps to balance an acid stomach. If you have a chronic stomach condition, please consult your health care practitioner.

Storage and Shelf Life

Yes. The maltodextrin acts as a protective barrier around the nutrients in GM and prevents their oxidation; thereby protecting them until GM is dissolved in a liquid.

GM should be protected from moisture, sunlight, and excess heat. It should be stored in its own jar in your cupboard with the lid tightened securely. We do not recommend storing GM in the refrigerator where condensation may occur and cause nutrients to oxidize and break down.

Not advised. Active nutrients are released when GM is mixed with the liquids and should be taken within 10-15 minutes after preparation. When active nutrients are no longer protected by being in a dry state and by the maltodextrin coating, they will begin to oxidize and degrade.

GM has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture.
